Our skin consists of two layers which differ in structure and in origin. the cuticle also known as scarf of skin. Also known as cutis Vera corium or dermis.its thickness of 0.1mm to 1mm.the true layer is fibrous layer which forms the chief part of the body covering. Its thickness is .5mm to 3mm. The thickness is less in female than male.the skin contains two types of glands sebaceous which secretes a fatty substance called sebum.and the second type are the sweat glands which secrete a watery fluid which is necessary for the skin to maintain the temperature and softness.The skin is the biggest organ in our body and the main function is to protect the internal organs and from other organisms and viruses etc.the other functions of skin are secretion.heat regulation .In Ayurveda skin is called as TWAK meaning skin. There are seven layers and each has its own characteristics. The diseases of skin are categorized as simple and complicated which they called as KSHUDRA VYADHI which are curable. And those which are  degenerative into 18 types and 7types are very difficult to treatment and they called them as  lepra  type which is termed as KUSHTA VYADHI  where the skin will start to degenerate to the level of bones and other organs.
